History
Walters Kennels was started by Cliff and Nancy Walters at Council Bluffs in 1939. Their son, DL, moved the kennel to La Cygne, Kansas in 1968 and continued to successfully train and campaign field trial retrievers.
Doug Greiner, from Hunter, Kansas, graduated from Fort Hays State University and returned to North Central Kansas to farm for 30 years. DL invited Doug to move to La Cygne in 1989 to learn the DL Walters’ retriever training methods. Doug bought the kennel upon DL’s retirement and has continued to focus on full time training tailored to each dog and owner’s needs.
Doug trains dogs for obedience, hunting upland and water, APLA (American Pointing Labrador Association), AKC hunt tests, and retriever trials.
